Walking on humble paths
Paved with love and loss
About the photo
In some of the very first Faroese sagas, the area of Tinganes is mentioned as a peninsula in central Tórshavn. The first Vikings to walk ashore on the Faroe Islands decided that this should be a Ting – a precursor of parliaments. For centuries, people would meet at different Tings in this area, and today you can find the headquarters of the Faroese government on the very same peninsula. This makes Tinganes one of the oldest parliamentary meeting-places in the world.
